New Table Project for Mel and Michele

Here's the newext tabletop. We are going for a Provence feel, using reds, yellows and blues with some green accents. Starting with a plain white tabletop (recently purchased from Ikea)

Ladies, would love your feedback on this so far...Have not yet determined all colors, but am thinking it would be nice to add cobalt blue as an accent.

Let me know if it meets your expectations so far. Have only done this corner so you can see progress and comment.

New painting in progress

Just hung the canvas last week to begin work on a new painting. This piece is in response to a poem by a local poet and will be part of the Mutual Muses show in March. This will be the 3rd MM show at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in Yarmouth. 30 poets and 30 artists gathered last fall, and exchanged work to provide inspiration for new art and new poems...
Just getting started here. Not sure exactly where I'll end up with this, At the moment, its quite large, about 4 ft tall by 5ft long...I'll end up cropping alot of it out I'm sure.
In the poem there is a reference to lying in the hammock like a mermaid caught in a net..(.paraphrasing)...when completed, Ill post the final painting along with the poem.

Heres where we are: I have added colors to all the stripes and have done a "bee" pattern in center yellow portion. There will be more cobalt, not to worry...Tried it in the place of stripe that is currently green, but without the light colors, it looked drab overall. Really need that contrast between the red and cobalts to make the colors pop. I'm on schedule to have the table complete for your next trip to the cape.

Well, since I can't seem to get my act together enough to figure out how to update new work on my website, a friend suggested I try blogging. Lets see if I can manage this with some level of consistency...

Its been a very busy few months at studio Brush. Lots of painting, some designing and consulting, and a few major holidays thrown in the mix. Staying focused and delivering projects on time has been challenging.
Currently, I'm at the tail end of a month long project that I've decided will be the perfect subject for my first Blog...

About 6 weeks ago I met with the owner of the very wonderful Two Brothers Pizza and Mexican in Sandwich to discuss their new restaurant in Plymouth.
Although the Sandwich location has been established for several years, the owner felt that opening this second location provided a perfect opportunity to create a cohesive image and atmosphere...a brand ...for their business. I started by updating the logo and menus, and considering the combo of Greek pizza and Mexican food, came up with a concept that visually represents both. The mural in the main restaurant, which is also mimicked on the menus, creates the illusion of chipping, peeling terra cotta colored plaster over a  geometric Greek key design -
The recycled old Formica tabletops have been painted to look like Mexican tile...
and the 18 ft counter top is painted MDF with mahogany trim. Several layers of resin and paint create the illusion of a veined yellow marble.
